Convenience Of Electric Can Opener
With today’s modern technology, we are spoilt for choice and what once used to be a challenge for some when it comes to can opening, that has been overcome by the electric can opener.
Opening of cans has become a breeze with electric can openers and has been a great aid for those with some physical disability or arthritis in their fingers. of course for those that are able bodied, they beg to differ because of the bulkiness and noise of the electric can openers compared to the manual ones.
Manual and electric can openers each come with their own pros and cons. While the manual can opener require strength to turn their handle and some degree of dexterity, it is not limited to any can sizes and it’s own size is small and easily fits into your kitchen utensil drawer.
As for the electric can opener, it has become a popular choice in kitchens of many homes nowadays because of their convenience, ease of use and generally faster than a manual opener. With the flip of a switch and pressing of button, instead of turning a handle. Although they can be a tad noisy with noise coming from the whirling motor. But that noise is not going to last forever since it will turn off once its job is accomplished.
Different Categories Of Electric Can Opener
Electric can openers come in two general category, the stand alone electric can opener and the under counter can opener. And before I forget, they also have a close cousin which is the battery operated version.
The stand alone household electrical can opener is comparitivey smaller to their commercial cousin. Having said that, they are bulkier and more diffult to store compared to the manual openers and their under counter cousins. Despite this slight disadvantage in terms of storage, they do their job well and makes the opening of cans a breeze. However, you have to look out though because some models are not able to open bigger cans because of their standing height.
The other version is the under counter can openers does not require any counter space, easier to find since they are semi-permanent installation and certinaly out of the way of other kitchen appliances and a great space saver. There are the under counter can openers where all you have to do is to slip the can into the mechanism and it will do its work. With some models, you don’t even have to hold the can.
One thing to look out for when it comes to choosing the type of electric can opener that you plan to purchase would be how the opener cuts. Traditional top-cut openers leave the lip slightly attached to the can letting you drain off liquids. However they leave behind sharp edges around the lid which is a potential safety hazard.
For side-cut openers, they generally cut below the lip of the can and you can lift off the whole can lid after cutting and not leaving behind any sharp edges. But this also make the draining of fluid difficult since the lid is no longer attached to the can.

Browse around in those stores and get a feel for them before you decide on your purchase.
