My Must Have And Most Used Knives In My Kitchen
Here is a list of my must have and most used knives in my kitchen. My wife does most of the cooking and I help out whenever I can. I try to do some cooking myself and not very successful all the time. I have tried some recipes of my own and some turn out really nice but I can never remember what went into it and never been able to replicate any successfully, lol.
The 2 most commonly used knives in my kitchen are:
Chinese Cleaver.
Heavy and good for chopping and many general cutting tasks although it can be a little bulky and difficult to handle when used to cut smaller stuff, it all depends on your own handling. I used it for scaling and cleaning fishes too so it does serve many purpose for me, and not forgetting that it can act as a can opener too when there’s a need to open a can en-pronto.
Cook’s or chef’s knife

This is another relative large multi-purpose knife that is used for regular cutting of meat, vegetables, chopping, peeling fruits. This I would classify as the most used knife in my kitchen because we use this most of the time and also the one that I sharpen from time to time.
I do get complaints from my wife though when she questioned me about the sharpness of the knife when she used it and reminded me not to sharpen it too often.
Other knives that we use from time to time
Bread Knife
I have an electric bread knife, part of a gift when we purchased our bread maker. We used to plug it in to use but slowly moved away from that because it was kind of loud and using it early in the morning is kind of disturbing the peace. Now we are just using the blades manually and it cut just as well. My preference is still for a normal bread knife but since what I have serve its purpose, I have no plans to spend money to get another one.
Fillet Knife
This is the sharpest knife in my household, always sharpened before and after filleting fish. However, we don’t use that too often. Most of the fish we eat, we cook them whole, not much of filleting is done because where we are, nothing much is wasted. Fish head is my favourite and some of the best I have eaten to date are Salmon Fish in Tom Yum Soup and Steamed Shove Nose Shark.
Serrated Steak Knife
I have a set of 8 small, serrated steak knives and meant for cutting up steak and meat. Not a frequently used knife but they are available for a purpose, especially if you have guests coming over.
Butter knife
Was wondering if I should include this since this is a knife I use so very often. I am sure my old faithful butter knife will be unhappy if left out.
